SAFE Enforcement

The Kansas Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Traffic Safety will host SAFE seat belt enforcement campaigns during February 23-March 6, 2026, around schools.

In 2023, Kansas lost 39 teens ages 14-19 in crashes, with 59% of those teens NOT PROPERLY RESTRAINED.

We continue to move the numbers in the right direction when education and enforcement are priorities of law enforcement, but as one sheriff said, he is “tired of attending funerals.”

In the 2024-25 school year, we had SAFE in 55 counties and 110 high schools, thus changing the culture of our youth to buckle up every trip every time.

At the end of the enforcement period, all agencies that return the citations form will be put into a drawing for all donated prizes.
