"420" Enforcement Campaign - April 20 - 22, 2018

In a strong effort to reduce suffering and deaths due to the DRUGGED IMPAIRED DRIVER, law enforcement from six states will join together for three consecutive days 4/20, 4/21 and 4/22 to identify and remove the impaired driver from our roadways. In Kansas alone we experienced 462 fatalities in 2017 with approximately 20% of those fatal crashes involving a drugged impaired driver. All available DRE’s (Drug Recognition Experts) and all ARIDE (Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement) trained officers should be utilized.
Why 4/20, simple, it’s the unofficial day for smoking marijuana. Don’t be fooled, it is not just illicit drugs it’s all drugs or substances that impair the ability to operate a vehicle. According to JAMA (Journal of American Medical Association) based on a study they found 12 % increase in the relative risk of a fatal crash after 4/20 on April 20th (4:20 PM to 11:59 PM) compared to identical time intervals on control days.
By using media releases, social media releases and high visibility enforcement, officers play a role in educating the public about the dangers of the drugged impaired driver. You and your department can make a difference. Let’s be pro-active not re-active.
Please sign up today and don’t let your fellow law enforcement partners bear the burden of making our streets and highways safe.
