RIDE Program

RIDE is a new program developed by the Kansas Traffic Safety Resource Office. The program is a multi-faceted approach at teaching teens the dangers and possible consequences of intoxicated driving, alcohol abuse and driving distractions. Car crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers, and many of these deaths could be prevented by paying closer attention to the task at hand- driving.

A self-contained PowerPoint presentation for High School students highlighting the dangers and possible consequences of intoxicated driving, alcohol abuse and driving distractions. This pre-packaged program consists of three parts and is designed to be presented by local presenters with a personal connection to their local community.

Part one is designed to be presented by someone in the healthcare field, ideally a doctor, nurse, or EMT. This presentation highlights the very real dangers of alcohol abuse rampant in our communities, high schools and colleges.

Part two is designed to be presented by a local law enforcement officer, police officer, sheriff’s deputy, or trooper. This presentation highlights the consequences of underage drinking, social hosting, and drinking and driving.

Part three is designed to be presented by a current or previous student, school counselor or local advocate. This presentation highlights the very real dangers and consequences of driving while distracted.

All three presentations come with a script for the presenter to follow to help get their message across to our young people.

The program is designed so that students will realize that their community does care about them and the choices that youth make. Remember, decreasing underage alcohol use and injuries is a community effort, and RIDE is the perfect tool to get that community involvement rolling.

Please contact KTSRO at ktsro@dccca.org, or 800-416-2522 to obtain a copy of the program and for assistance in locating members of your community that can present to your school.
