The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)  kicked off their annual holiday crackdown on drunk driving by unveiling a new mobile app to help people who have been drinking get a safe ride home.
For many Kansans “holiday cheer” involves consuming alcohol  at parties and holiday events.  So it comes as no surprise there’s a spike in drunk driving crashes each December.
NHTSA’s new SaferRide app will help keep drunk drivers off our Kansas roads by allowing users to call a taxi or a friend and by identifying their location so they can be picked up.  The app is available starting today for Android devices on Google Play.
There’s no happy holiday ending to drunk driving.  The cost of a DUI is over $10,000. The cost of taxi $10.00.  If you, a friend or family member have been drinking , there’s always a way to get home safely.  Keep your holidays happy and safe.

The Kansas Traffic Safety Resource Office is a program of the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Safety and Technology and DCCCA, Inc.  DCCCA provides a variety of human services including, but not limited to, the coordination, prevention, and treatment of alcoholism and drug dependency to improve the safety, health and well-being of adults, children and youths. The mission of KTSRO is to provide public information and education to protect Kansans from avoidable injury or death on Kansas roadways.
