Child Passenger Safety Technician Courses

Midwest Regional Conference

The Midwest Regional CPS Conference will be held this year in Council Bluffs, Iowa on September 9 – 10, 2013.  The Kansas Traffic Safety Office along with KDOT is offering mini-grants to any Child Passenger Safety certified technician or instructor that would like to attend the conference this year.

This 2 day conference is sure to provide you with a wealth of information and great ideas to take back to your communities, just in time for CPS Week 2013!  Preliminary topics include presentations in the arenas of rear-facing until 2, parent education and social media, hands on skills practice, tether anchor points and higher weight harness seats, crash dynamics and more.  You will also have the opportunity to earn all 6 of your required CEU’s for recertification.  Enjoy networking opportunities as well with your fellow techs from Arkansas, Nebraska, Missouri and Iowa.

Applications have been closed for this mini-grant.  Those people accepted will be notified by July 1st.  More information on the conference will be posted once it's available.

Child Passenger Safety Technician Courses

You must be at least 18 years old at the time the course starts. The standardized child passenger safety technician (CPST) certification course is 4 days long and combines classroom instruction, hands-on work with car seats and vehicles, and a community safety seat checkup. Attendance is required for the entire course. This is a physically demanding class. Students will be literally climbing in and out of a variety of vehicles, outdoors during the hands-on practice exercises and while participating in the public check up event. Dress should be causal and appropriate to the weather.  There are several dates in different locations. Please see below for registration information.
