Booster Seat usage in Kansas has risen from 69.26% in 2007-08 to 73.15% in 2008-09. While an increase in proper Booster Seat usage is encouraging, there is still a lot of room to grow. The Kansas Traffic Safety Resource Office has a program which can be utilized in schools (or any venue where you have a group of kindergartener to 2nd grade kids) to raise awareness for proper usage needs for youth. Booster to Belts is an interactive presentation that can be performed either by staff within schools, or from outside child safety advocates such as County Health Department workers, local and county law enforcement, or motivated parents seeking avenues to spread the safety message. It uses a PowerPoint presentation that features “Booster Rooster” who reminds kids that every time they ride in a vehicle they should be restrained either in a car seat or a booster seat. Once someone has been trained (free) and joins the Booster Rooster Road Team they have access to the presentation and also to numerous giveaway items (provided free from our office) that are program specific.  Please contact KTSRO at 800-416-2522 or ktsro@dccca.org for more information.
